Blue Monday is an annual day about making someone else happy. It might be a cheerful hello to a neighbour you’ve never met, or baking a cake for your workmates. Organising a sing-song in a shopping centre or registering as a blood donor. Buying flowers for a loved one, joining a charity campaign or visiting someone lonely.
Blue Monday was created by People United as an annual festival of bonhomie where people across the country creatively do things to make others happier on one of the gloomiest days of the year - one Monday in January. The project has shown heart-warming films, reached over 70 libraries, and inspired numerous small-scale acts of kindness.
People United has developed the idea, website and brand of Blue Monday. Our aims as a creative laboratory and catalyst are to create new initiatives and to enable them to grow by linking with other partners.
We have now passed over the management and co-ordination of the Blue Monday project to Canterbury College. This will allow the day to develop into a national and international day and enable young people to learn, contribute and help in the running of a regional and national campaign. The College’s aim is to integrate the day into their curriculum and to enable Blue Monday to be a unique, creative youth-led festival.
