Inter-generational storiesWe All Do Good Things: Primary Schools
The Kind Schools Programme

Our acclaimed schools programme asks the question - can we grow kindness and a caring ethos in primary schools?

By using the arts we found out working across three whole schools. From the poet laureate and South African musicians, to cartoonists and oral historians, schools told stories of kindness through the arts and began to take action themselves.

The results (measured over time and with control schools) were impressive. Children participating showed an increase in positive attitudes towards others and a willingness to help. The project was thoroughly evaluated through our partnership with the University of Kent and the Centre for the Study of Group Processes.

I believe, through this project, that we have given our children one of the greatest gifts of all - they are now so aware of kindness and the impact it can have on others that they have become more caring, sensitive and empathetic citizens; and I know they will take this with them through the rest of their lives. As the ripples of their kindness spread out, who knows what effect that will have on our local community and the world beyond. It has been a privilege to be part of such an innovative and vital project.

We have now produced a free Kindness pack for Primary Schools across Kent. This is an opportunity for schools to develop their community cohesion, citizenship, SEAL (social and emotional aspects of learning) and interdisciplinary work in a creative and rewarding way. For more information please contact us here.

We have received lots of interest from different local authorities and other bodies about this work. Please contact us if you'd like some further guidance and a chance to develop similar work in your school or area.
