We are a catalyst for kindness.
Working with leading universities (particularly the University of Kent), People United acts as a practical laboratory, testing out and professionally evaluating creative social programmes that can be replicated and shared.
We believe that being kind to one another is fundamental to making the world a better place. From a neighbourly smile and a helping hand to ongoing ethical conduct and active altruism, kindness is demonstrated in many different ways. And whereas a lack of kindness breeds intolerance, injustice and inhumanity; kindness grows trust, friendship, and a common sense of community.
Our work takes place in high streets, schools, residential homes and offices. From intergenerational understanding and pro-social behaviour, to volunteering and corporate ethics; our work lays the foundations for a responsible, caring and happy society.
All our work is:
Participatory and Creative: We work in an interesting, accessible and fun way. We use the arts, sport and creative activities to engage people in a participatory process. Our work takes place in a variety of settings, including schools, shopping centres, offices and high streets. We work in partnership with many organisations and statutory bodies.
Well-researched: We use evidence drawn from theoretical and experimental research studies on positive motivation and behaviour to structure our work. It is important that our work builds on, and adds to, the academic research in this field. We maintain an overview on research relating to the development of empathy, positive role models, social and emotional skills, moral understanding, social norms and well being.
A Catalyst : We develop projects that have a multiplier effect. Our projects are run on a local level but are designed to be replicated and shared nationally and internationally. All our work is thoroughly evaluated.
